Obsidian started to play some serious metal in 2002 when drummer Melle Kramer joined
Simon Lawford (Guitars), Glen Loupias (Bass) and Sjaak Kassies (Guitar).
This line-up of skilled musicians made it possible to experiment and evolve, creating an unique style of music in the vein of bands like Meshuggah, Scarve, Cynic and Opeth.
Obsidian played big Dutch venues like Paradiso, supporting bands like Textures and Gorefest. After two demos and finals in ‘the Amsterdam Pop Award’ and the renowned ‘Metal Battle’, Obsidian had earned their share of respect of the Dutch metal community.
During that line-up Simon and Sjaak had to divide their attention between guitars and vocals and felt it would be better to have a seperate vocalist, which was found in the person of Serge Regoor (ex-Amethyst). This line-up recorded Obsidian’s first full-length album ‘Emerging’ in 2006 , which was mixed and mastered by Jochem Jacobs (Textures, Cypher, Magnacult).
Shortly after recording ‘Emerging’, Obsidian and Serge decided to part ways. A new vocalist (and a hell of a frontman) was quickly found in the person of Robbe K (Disavowed, Arsebreed).
In March 2007 Obsidian signed with Rusty Cage Records for an international release of ‘Emerging’. Fully remastered and recorded by Jochem Jacobs (Textures, Cypher) with new vocals by Robbe K.
The future is next!
