Continuum is a power trio of vibrant musicians Dean Sharon (guitar+vox), Phil Horwitz (drums), and Jason Fifield (upright bass+keyboard). Their original, contemporary alt-rock sound has been likened to Led Zeppelin, Dave Matthews and Blind Melon. Though comparisons are somewhat inevitable in the music world, the artists that make up continuum are true originals. Jason has performed with G-Love, The Funky Meters, Charlie Hunter and many others, and has studied with Big Pete Pearson, BB King’s former bassist. Phil is a Berklee and Boston schooled jazz drummer, and Dean has been writing and performing for over a decade with several Philadelphia bands including The Silence and Transient.
The members represent a confluence of differing backgrounds, from rock to jazz, folk and world music. The urgency of daily creation, as opposed to re-creation, is apparent in the dynamic approach they apply to their original compositions. Intense rhythms both highlight and deviate from the harmonic and melodic content of the pop-structured songs, creating a beautiful tension that is clever and engaging, edgy and thought provoking.
Born of the internet, 70’s rock, 60’s jazz, forged in the realm of the studio and with a steely resolve to perfect their art, these musicians are celebrating their uniqueness as individuals. Yet as a band, they are an unmistakably accessible unit, pleasing the senses, invigorating the soul, and inspiring a physical and emotional resonance within the listener.
