Since the release of their heralded debut, On the Culture Industry, Ahleuchatistas have made ambitious strides that have taken them far from home and then brought them back to the studio to lay their sophomore offering The Same and the Other to tape. Recently signed by Noreaster Failed Industries (NFI), Asheville, NC’s prog-punks are poised to continue their workmanlike touring regimen and further open the floodgates to endless creative possibilities. “Over the past eight months, we have evolved so quickly,” said guitarist Shane Perlowin. “The manifestation of this is evident on the new record. We have been playing many of these numbers live for some time now, and we feel we picked the right moment to document our progress.”
While one critic chose to haphazardly write their debut off as typical “complicated hipster music,” and another begged “for a clue,” the overwhelming response to Ahleuchatista’s debut was that of great interest and praise. Garnering approval from the likes of Pitchfork, Sound the Sirens and LostatSea.net, the band has been pleasantly surprised by the overall reception. “We realize the music we make isn’t going to connect with everyone and we understand why some view it as pretentious,” said bassist Derek Poteat. “However, it’s amazing the number of critics and listeners that have embraced what we are doing. We just want to continue to create music and grow. I really believe that The Same and the Other is a giant step forward. It not only chronicles the times we live in, but the ever-changing state of this trio. There is a lot of room for interpretation, from the music to the album art, and the beauty of this record is that the absence of lyrics allows the listener to do it all on their own."”
