The Minneapolis-based post folk outfit A Night In The Box uses elements of bluegrass, blues, and roots music but allows the energy of their punk rock and hardcore influences to seep through the cracks, resulting in an eccentric Americana sound with a punch. Made up of three friends who met in high school, the band really took form in the spring of 2006 as Alex Dalton (Drums, vocals) completed the trio, giving the band just what it needed. Clayton Hagen (lead vocals, guitar) came back from a stay in Texas in 2005, the spirit of Texas panhandling absorbed in his Minnesota blood, and immediately began writing songs with friend, and ex-The New Renaissance front man Travis Hetman (Banjo, vocals, guitar, harmonica).
The band joined forces with friend Ian Anderson and his label Afternoon Records, recently recording their debut album The Hustle, The Prayer, The Thief, in Minneapolis. Engineered by Dustin Miller and produced by Ian Anderson, the album possesses a unique sound that is, simply put, hard to explain.
